Off to LA to focus on painting, collect inspiration and connect with other artists.  I will be back to Wisconsin for spring seed planting and look forward productive and motivating days ahead.

Article Brief: “Forward Reaction: Truth Hits The Streets” is not only about documenting a series of real events affecting a state, but also about taking art to the streets, presenting art in new ways, and transforming spaces as different as Capitols, art galleries and city streets. Just like the protest signs transformed politicized civic space, this exhibition transforms the gallery from a space for presenting objects once made to a space that is about movements in the making.

“Sparrow” by Nina Bednarski as seen in Design Sponge.

Article Brief: Nadeige Choplet and John Lego live above the Choplet ceramic studio on Grand Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The building holds a particularly special meaning for the couple. Nadeige initially studied textile design and then received an MFA in painting and sculpture from the Beaux-Arts school in Paris. Afterward, she came to New York on a Fulbright scholarship and pursued a second MFA in ceramics. She met John when purchasing the building in 2000. He was her lawyer, and after a stressful closing, Nadeige was so relieved and happy that she invited him to a Christmas party. The rest is history, and now the couple has a nine-month-old son. The ceramic studio has evolved to include daily ceramic classes, available studio space and a gallery space, and it offers production services for artists and designers. Thanks, Nadeige & John! “Pigeon Feed” by Nina Bednarski as seen at Fountain Art Fair NYC

Article Brief: Milwaukee-born artist Nina Bednarski showed work at the Fountain Art Fair with the Leo Kesting Gallery. She creates mixed media works by painting with enamel on old factory or farm windows and sometimes adding a collaged under layering. The windows, lit from behind, have the feel of nostalgia and blur the line between the urban and the bucolic.
